1 bolletje alstublieft!

This was our breakfast this morning (it came with the room (a clean and spacious room for which we only pay $34)). That is not a scoop of ice cream.

Ellende

Perhaps the gods do not want us to take this trip. If we go to New York state, a car bomb is parked on Times Square. If we go to Tennessee, Tennessee is flooded (although we aren't going to Nashville, so whatever). If we go to Louisiana, its beaches are suddenly covered in oil. If anything happens in Texas and Utah (the next states we will pass through on our trip) we know that the gods are trying to fuck with us for real.

However, the gods are off by quite some distance and haven't been able to actually impact our trip in any way. Today we are in Tennessee, near the Smoky Mountains. Our motel is situated in Pigeon Forge, which turns out to be just a very long strip of ugly theme restaurants, half a titanic and something called Dollywood. Brrrrr. (Maybe the gods were trying to prevent me from seeing this).

Aangenaam warm. Mooie bergstromen vol smeltwater. Heul veul vlinders.
Luckily, you don't notice any of the horribleness that is just outside the park when you are in the mountains. So this morning we got up early and drove up there for a hike. It was beautiful, the streams were rushing, the air was clean, and there were loads and loads of butterflies.
And I bought a bear mask. It is my birthday, so it was the perfect gift from me to me!

Poetry

I gave Yair this t-shirt for his birthday. It looks very good on him. And it cracks me up.
Bad poetry
oh noetry.

Perfect

Sunday we drove from Rochester to Millersburg, Ohio. I wanted to go specifically to Millersburg because I read that many Amish people live in that area. And indeed, we saw some Amish people, working in the fields, driving their little carriages... But I don't have any pictures because I felt weird treating these people as a tourist attraction. Even though the whole reason I was there was because I treated them as a tourist attraction. But whatever, I embrace my inconsistencies.
To be able to show you at least one pic of Ohio, I have added a picture of the too perfect view from our hotel room.

Rochester

Yesterday at 9 in the morning a guy came to pick up our last piece of furniture: the guest bed. And then the house was empty, except for the bags and miscellaneous stuff we are bringing with us for this trip.

Dag huis! Dag straat! Dag Cambridge!

After that we spent some time cleaning the house and packing the car, but then we couldn't put it of any longer: it was time to go! Good bye house! Good bye street! Good bye Cambridge!

The trip started out great. And then we got a ticket for speeding. And then I got a migraine. But luckily it didn't take too long (only 6 1/2 hours) to get to Riccardo's beautiful place in Rochester. And the weather is lovely, so today we are going to the beach!
